Advancing Mathematics Research with AI-Driven Formal Proof Search

AI-driven formal proof search is revolutionizing mathematics research and problem-solving.

Large language models (LLMs) are becoming increasingly adept at mathematical reasoning, yet their reliability issues hinder their application in mathematics research. To address this, researchers propose using LLMs to generate formal proofs in languages like Lean. A large-scale evaluation of this method has shown promising results, with the most capable agent autonomously solving 9 out of 353 open Erdős problems and proving 44 out of 492 OEIS conjectures, marking a significant step in AI-aided formal proof search.
