For the past few months, I have conducted hourly HTTP checks on 99 free public APIs, revealing significant issues with the popular GitHub resource. The public-apis list, while widely used, suffers from outdated entries that are not verified. The audit indicates that approximately 15-25% of APIs may be dead, paid, or have degraded performance, highlighting the need for better verification processes.
